Berlin - Topographie des Terrors

I don't mean to be a downer on this gorgeous Friday afternoon, but I can't go back to talking about Germany without mentioning the giant pink elephant in the room. Hitler's national Socialists (Nazis) ruled Berlin for twelve years, between 1933 and 1945. Although more than half a century has passed since that tragic time in history, remnants of the horrific events still linger throughout Berlin. Walking through the Topographie des Terrors was bittersweet. It was incredible to see pieces of the Berlin Wall still intact, yet still devastating to think about what the great wall signified. Within the cellar remains of the Nazis' Reich Security Main Office, photos and documents explain the secret state police and intelligence organizations that planned and executed Nazi crimes against humanity. The fates of both perpetrators and victims are included in this free open-air exhibit.

Just had to share... A much happier post is coming right up, promise!
