Stop This Train

It's really the little things in life that make me a happy girl. Earlier this week I had to take a train from San Diego to L.A. for a work meeting. It was my first time. Why haven't I done this before? It's so incredibly relaxing! I found myself a little space on the second floor and curled up with a book. Every now and then I looked up to take in the gorgeous view of the coastline... and on the way home I even ordered myself a glass of wine (at two in the afternoon! I know, what a rebel). The whole experience made me feel... grateful. I found myself humming one of my favorite songs the whole way back. Lyrics after the jump!

By the way, have you ever been inside of San Diego's Santa Fe station? It's beautiful! A one-way trip from San Diego to L.A. via the Amtrak is about 2.5-3 hours long... in case you're interested in taking a little trip.

"So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game to find a way to say that life has just begun
Had a talk with my old man
Said help me understand
He said turn 68, you'll renegotiate
Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly we'll never stop this train"

Suck On That..

{fries + "foillandaise"}
{blueberry sangria: chardonnay, fresh blueberries, peaches & the commemorative "macho man" Randy Savage bloody mary: chipotle vodka, olive, carrot, slim jim}
{green eggs and ham: rustled egg, pork belly, brioche, herbs}
{cured salmon: avocado, tomato, cucumber, sprouts + grapefruit aioli + sourdough}
Do you remember me saying that Searsucker is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in San Diego in this post? I wasn't lying you know.. The husband and I stopped in for Sunday brunch this weekend, before running off to the beach, so pardon the lack of makeup in the shot above. Malarkey's seasonal brunch menu draws on all parts of San Diego: the beach, the Gaslamp and the rustic desert. The food was once again, impeccable. I advise for you to stop in and try it yourself before summer is over! Tootles.

This Is No Ordinary Love

Something amazing happened this week. I saw a legend perform, and she melted my heart... For those of you who are new to my blog, here's a fun fact: my husband and I are still newlyweds. We got married last October, and had the pleasure of dancing for the first time as man and wife to Sade's By Your Side.. It was a magical moment, and all those wonderful memories came rushing back to us as we watched Sade sing that beautiful song on stage. Oh, and if the night wasn't amazing enough already, we also got to catch John Legend perform as her opening act. It. Was. Awesome.

{the happy couple, ready to get our groove on}

{John Legend, doin' what he does best}

{the legend herself}

So thankful that she broke her ten-year streak and started performing live again. Sade, we've missed you. Welcome back.

Griffith Observatory

I don't think that I'll ever get tired of playing a tourist. There's always a new place to explore, a different sight to visit. During my month-long stint in Anaheim recently, I took the opportunity to visit Griffith Observatory, a true icon of Los Angeles, located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park. Situated more than 1,100 feet above sea level, the location offers stunning views of L.A., and opportunities to catch breathtaking sunsets, like the one I captured in some of my photos above. For those of you who have never been, I strongly urge you to visit the observatory next time you're in L.A. And boys, if you're hoping to get lucky one of these days, it really doesn't get more romantic than this.. Just sayin', I'm so happy my hubby and I picked this location for our date night.
